iOS 5.1 Jailbreak One Step Closer To Reality

An iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak came one step closer to being a reality today. Just a few hours ago jailbreak developer pod2g tweeted that he had an untethered jailbreak running on his iPhone 4.
Now, this does not mean that we should get our hopes up just yet about a public jailbreak tool coming just yet. For one thing, the iPhone 4 – along with earlier iPhones and the original iPad – are a very different animal from the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and new iPad. Devices running on the A5 and A5X processor are much harder to crack than older devices. Apart from that, there’s also the need to create a publicly-usable tool.
Nevertheless, this is a major step toward an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1. While it could well be awhile yet before a public tool is available, the fact that pod2g has a it running on an iPhone 4 is definitely cause to be excited.
Heya! My iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 is now untethered :-) 5 hours ago via Twitter for Mac ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by@socialditto
